授業の目的  
The goal of this course is to encourage students to study sociological theories and to acquire an ability to investigate their own research topics with the help of the knowledge of sociological “instruments”. Issues of this course will be decided according to discussions with students.

After completing this course, you will be able to:
1). Understand and give an outline of the textbook, and give a presentation to other students.
2). Understand what other students report or talk, and give your own ideas about them.
3). Acquire an attitude for research activities.

授業概要  
In the first semester, the focus is on understanding of the basic concepts of sociological theories and the sociological way of thinking, while in the second semester, students work on the basic research efforts to narrow down their specific academic interests with the graduation theses in mind.

授業時間外学修情報
「学修」とは授業と授業時間外の予習・復習などを含む概念です。1単位につき45時間の学修が必要です。
学則で定められている1単位の時間数は次のとおりです。

Students are required to read the textbook in advance and to prepare for their graduation theses.
 
成績評価基準(授業評価方法) 及び 関連するディプロマポリシー  
The graduation thesis will be evaluated according to the following view points:

(1) Clearly formulated problem setting: 10% (B, G)
(2) Well-organized previous research 20% (A, E, F)
(3) Originality as a thesis with criticisms and supplements to previous studies 20% (B, H, D, I, J)
(4) Some empirical data must be presented to support the claims 40% (H, K, L)
(5) Correct formatting of references and citations 10% (B)
 
受講条件(履修資格)  
Students are required to have interest in sociology or sociological research topics.

Because students have to prepare for their graduation theses, they are desired to narrow down their specific academic interest with the graduation theses in mind.
