The aim of this course is to present students a bird's-eye view of the near future in Gunma Prefecture in the context of the globalization. As stewards of Japan’s future, students will learn about the expectations from the community toward students of Gunma University. By searching for solutions to several issues of globalization that are occurring locally, students will gain an appreciation for what is to be done in their academic careers at Gunma University.

This course deals with the themes like following : gender equality, technical and business innovation, disaster prevention, multiculturalism, and the welfare of society. The current state of local issues related to four selected themes will be introduced in a series of lectures by guest speakers and university staff. Students will engage with these issues through group-discussion using a problem-based learning approach.

Usually one week prior to each lecture, materials will be distributed to students. Reading and thoughtful engagement with the materials is required before the class session.

Students will be graded by the reaction papers(20%), the group presentation(20%), and the final report(60%).
